No Strings Attached playwright/performer is new member of State Parliament

08 April 2010

21-year-old Kelly Vincent made political history today; she is the youngest person elected to an Australian parliament, the first person to be elected to an Australian parliament on a disability platform, and the first member of the South Australian Legislative Council to serve from a wheel chair. Kelly is the leader of the Dignity for Disability party, and the only person to win an MP seat for which she will provide her own chair.

Congratulations Kelly!  We look forward to many future collaborations.

Disability arts and disability politics gain a leader

22 March 2010

No Strings Attached performer and playwright Kelly Vincent was the second candidate on the Dignity for Disability ticket for South Australia's Upper House in the state election on 20 March 2010. With primary candidate Dr Paul Collier’s untimely death, Kelly received Paul’s votes as well as her own. As of today, predictions are that Kelly may very well win a seat in the Upper House for Dignity for Disability. Final results should be known within two weeks, when all postal votes are tallied. Disability arts and disability politics lose a leader

20 March 2010

We regret the untimely passing of Dr Paul Collier, Disability and Disability Arts advocate for many years. President of Arts Access SA and of the national peak body Arts Access Australia, Dr Collier was also the leader of the Dignity for Disability party in South Australia. As such, he was the party’s primary candidate for the state’s Upper House. Vale, Paul.
