Administrator - Martin Sawtell

Martin’s work experiences have focused on helping artists and arts organisations build their knowledge and capacity in areas of project development, planning, budgeting and grant writing. But this career in Arts Management and Community Cultural Development began quite by accident.

After completing a Bachelor of Journalism at Uni SA, Martin volunteered at The Arts Centre Port Noarlunga and at Radio Adelaide. While waiting for his media career to take off, he found he quite enjoyed supporting communities and artists explore the world around them.

With a Marketing and Management traineeship at The Arts Centre and a Graduate Diploma in Community Cultural Development at Community Arts Network of SA, Martin took a few years off to travel through the UK and Europe.

In 2001, he returned to Australia as Youth Arts Officer at the City of Rockingham (WA) where he coordinated an annual youth festival, started a youth theatre workshop program and supported a developing local youth band scene. After four years he moved with the City of South Perth to coordinate their annual program of festivals and events. He returned to Adelaide to become Training and Development Officer with Kurruru Youth Performing Arts.

Currently he shares his skills with two community arts organizations: No Strings Attached (as Administrator) and the Community Arts Network (as Project Officer for DATT, Disability and Arts Transition Team).

In his spare time Martin enjoys cooking as if he’s in the MasterChef kitchen, going to the gym and reading something interesting on his partner's Kindle book reader.
